The use of purchased email accounts is a common practice of two types of people: confirmed spammers and unwary novices who think they are doing email marketing. Regarding the first group there is not much we can say other than the obvious (that we are absolutely against any sending to purchased lists, that we consider this practice to be spam, etc.), but regarding the second there is still hope, at least as far as awareness is concerned. This post is therefore dedicated to those email marketing novices who, due to inexperience, consider the possibility of acquiring a purchased email list.
There are a number of reasons not to use a purchased list, see some below:
Fake emails: The number of “invented” emails on these lists for sale is huge, which makes the percentage of errors in sending high or enough to attract the attention of providers such as Hotmail and Gmail. This large number of incorrect addresses ends up harming the sending of correct emails, since providers identify this sending as spam and block all subsequent sendings from that IP or domain.
Spamtraps: One of the things that indicate that a user is using a purchased database is the presence of spamtraps in the contact list. In purchased lists there are several of these emails created by providers with the sole purpose of tricking spammers. Many of the emails on these lists are obtained through programs that capture addresses on the advertising database Internet. Spamtraps are “baits” for these programs to capture and end up sending campaigns for them, thus falling into a trap. Since this email only serves the purpose of capturing unsuspecting spammers, there is no way to argue that there was an opt-in. It is clear that whoever is sending to that contact is sending unsolicited emails, that is, spamming.
If a provider identifies that several emails are being sent to these contacts with traps in one shipment, they can block the IP and domain of the sender in the future.
Low reputation engagement: Valid emails that are on these lists will rarely be integrated into campaigns from unknown senders. Why? Because most people on the Internet are wary of unsolicited emails. Spammers are notorious scammers and fraudsters, and for that very reason it is necessary to take a number of measures to never have your email confused with that type of email.
Blocking against emailmanager: Our email marketing tool has strict policies against spam practices. If the use of purchased lists by emailmanager users is proven, their accounts will be blocked immediately. This measure ensures that other users are not harmed by the unethical practices of some.
These are just a few examples of reasons not to fall into the temptation of the quick lists that are sold out there. There are several other reasons that we will discuss in other posts, but we hope that you now have a clear idea of what buying emails entails.
