Sustainability goals cannot be achieved without efficient technologies

Post by msttasnuvanava »

2021 was one of the most devastating years in terms of climate disasters. Not only in Spain, with the Filomena storm, the largest snowstorm in our country since 1971, but also in other parts of the world, such as the wave of tornadoes in Kentucky, the fires in Colorado or the typhoons in Southeast Asia... a series of phenomena that once again highlight the impact of climate change and the need for companies to try to alleviate these devastating effects by setting clear and defined sustainability goals.

And they should do so with the understanding that these goals will not only be good for the planet, but also for their businesses . That is, a specific program can reduce the impact we have on the current climate crisis, but it can also improve corporate reputation , strengthen business development and even optimize financial returns.

At the last climate summit (COP26), held last year in Glasgow how to get uk whatsapp number government and climate experts committed to the goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050, among other agreements. In this sense, at Dell we have been contributing to the reduction of emissions for 25 years .

In 1996, we created the Asset Resale & Recycling Services program for businesses, followed by Dell Reconnect in 2004 and our own recycling services in 2006. These and other programs we have in place throughout the company help us, the community and the planet by promoting the reuse and recycling of materials .

Thanks to our product design policies based on waste elimination and the reuse of electronic waste , we are reaching our goals of manufacturing products with 50% recyclable or renewable materials.

2030 Goals: Accelerating the Circular Economy
By 2030 we will reuse or recycle a product equivalent to any product purchased by a customer
100 % of our packaging will come from recycled or renewable materials
More than half of our production will have been made from renewable or recycled materials
Our sustainability program is based on three strategic approaches:

Accelerating the circular economy
Protect the planet
Rewarding the professionals who make our products
In February 2020, we presented our 2030 goals with the aim of moving from simple promises to action, because we believe that technology plays an essential role in the search for sustainability.

Sustainability begins with design and extends to the entire product life cycle
In the Dell PowerEdge portfolio, sustainability spans the entire product lifecycle , including the design of servers, with the goal of making them more efficient.

Sustainable materials. Dell Technologies products include materials such as bioplastics made from wood, reclaimed carbon fibers and recycled aluminum. We are also exploring recycled steel options and using local materials from returned products through our Asset Recovery Services program. PowerEdge products currently contain up to 35% recycled plastic , but we aim to reach 100% by 2030.
Thermal Design and Cooling . Our product design innovations—multi-vector or liquid cooling and thermal design— reduce carbon footprints through reduced power and cooling requirements . The PowerEdge R650 and R750 motherboards feature a T-shaped design to improve airflow, thereby balancing system cooling. Additionally, Dissolved Liquid Cooling (DLC) technology in PowerEdge servers can cool servers up to four times faster than air.
Energy efficiency and infrastructure consolidation . Since 2013, we have reduced the energy needs of our PowerEdge products by 83% thanks to advances in development. In the latest generation of servers alone, we have improved energy efficiency by 29%. In addition, we have reduced the need for hardware: in 2013, a company needed six servers, compared to today's one.
Our commitment has led us to meet the strictest standards of the American EPA ( US Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool ) and to achieve a 3.0 Energy Star rating for our entire product catalog.

Our partners are also sustainable
As more and more organizations look to meet sustainability goals, achieving a “green” data center is essential . But to achieve this, cooperation is essential. That’s why, in addition to having very demanding sustainability practices for the development of our products and solutions, Dell Technologies also supports its customers and suppliers at every point in the journey towards a greener world.

With a digital economy in full expansion, data centers are becoming larger, have increasingly complex structures... and require more and more energy to process the information they handle.

The reality is that most modern data centers have greatly improved their cooling technologies, but there is still a long way to go to find the optimal hardware solutions. Companies that want to can partner with Dell Technologies to develop greener data centers , supported by more energy-efficient technologies that help protect the environment without increasing costs.

Dell hardware solutions are sustainable and help create more efficient data centers that require less energy and therefore produce a smaller carbon footprint, limiting the extraction of natural resources and meeting the sustainability requirements of any corporation.
