I have nothing against updates, but new versions of macOS, unlike iOS, can bring more problems to your computer than benefits: incompatibility of programs, glitches and crashes, or loss of important files in non-working applications. And this is only a small part. Therefore, I always advise you to turn off automatic updates and control this process yourself:
Disable updates on Mac. It’s very easy to disable automatic updates. Photo. It’s very easy to disable automatic updates. In macOS Monterey and later: Open “System Preferences” and go to “Software Update”. Uncheck “Automatically install panama mobile database updates on Mac”. In macOS Ventura: Open “System Preferences” and go to “General”. Select “Software Update”. Open “Automatic Update” and uncheck all the switches. After each new version of the operating system is released, just read the reviews and see which applications can be updated for it. After analyzing all this information, update only after that. In general, new operating systems on Macs have not brought anything mind-blowing for a long time, so you don’t need to chase updates at all. Stability is more important.
