Quantum computers pose a threat to the security of online banking, smart home devices and messaging apps. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), together with partners from 17 other EU member states, is therefore calling on industry, operators of critical infrastructures and public administration to switch to post-quantum cryptography (PQC). Concrete measures have been formulated to initiate this transition.
A current threat comes from attackers who are already storing encrypted data today in morocco mobile database order to decrypt it in the future using powerful quantum computers. Applications with particularly sensitive data should therefore be secured against so-called "store now, decrypt later" attacks as quickly as possible, but no later than the end of 2030.
Statement by the BSI President
BSI President Claudia Plattner emphasizes: "Powerful quantum computers could develop enormous potential in the future. At the same time, however, they threaten the security of the entire digital infrastructure. It is therefore crucial to act now and take protective measures."
