Why it is important to incorporate Sustainable Development into your business model

Post by Bappy11 »

Have you ever asked yourself: How responsible am I as an entrepreneur for the waste I generate? Both in the production process and at the end of the useful life of that product?

What is my impact as an opportunity generator in relation to the environment in which I am present?

Is my business capable of linking economic growth with the social and/or environmental environment?

These questions are directly related to what is known today as “Sustainable Development” . In this article, I will tell you about the great challenge we have as a society to integrate this concept and apply it in our lives from the perspective of the producer, micro-entrepreneur, and entrepreneur.

Every undertaking is an opportunity for development for the country or region, therefore, when executed, it generates an impact on the environment and society, which can be reflected in the generation of employment, improvement of services, or the offer of a product or service .

It is therefore very important to keep in mind that development is very different from the australia number for whatsapp concept of “growth”. According to former economist Manfred Max Neef: “The obsession with growth is nonsense. Because an elementary natural law, which everyone knows, is that all living systems grow up to a certain point at which they stop growing, but we never stop developing (people, animals, plants, ecosystems, etc.).”

The concept of sustainability means “meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” . Therefore, in the practice of sustainable development, there are 3 pillars that are fundamental, and when they are fully understood, actions related to the aforementioned concept are born.

The 3 pillars correspond to the economic, social and environmental. How can we make these groups work together when it comes to entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurship that involves activities that contribute to society is considered sustainable.
Secondly, the practices carried out aim to be environmentally friendly. In this way, not only is a recycling project considered sustainable, but any other activity can be sustainable as long as it is rational in its contact with nature.
Thirdly, the project must be economically sustainable: it must generate profits to be reinvested and sustained over time, and it must promote the growth of local, national and regional economies.
This does not mean that there are only a few areas that can make your business sustainable, but rather it is something transversal, which is incorporated into the heart of your business, in the business model, in the value proposition, and in the organizational culture.

For example, you can have a business that manufactures products. The value that you can add through sustainable development is to be concerned with using local raw materials, optimizing the energy you use through renewable energy, having a culture that is respectful of the environment, and involving the community around you.

Finally, I invite you to learn more about the concept of Sustainable Development through the actions published by the UN, which encompass social, environmental and economic development, called "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDG).
