Third S – Seiso (Brightness)

Post by sohanuzzaman53 »

Seiso is based on the idea that a clean workplace is safer, has fewer distractions, and is more rigorously maintained because the act of cleaning requires close inspection of the items being cleaned.

The need for cleanliness is obvious in hospital environments, food service, the hospitality industry, computer chip manufacturing and the like – but the discipline inherent in cleaning your work area translates saudi arabia mobile number list well to other efficiencies, no matter what type of work is being done. A clean work area is undoubtedly more organized, safer and shows respect for yourself and your coworkers.

Seiso slogan: Clean and examine, or examine by cleaning.

Fourth S – Seiketsu (Standardized)

Standards help ensure that improvements made using Kaizen or the 5S approach to continuous improvement become the norm, not all at once. Standards are always followed “by the book.” Once a process has been proven to be optimal, it is standardized.

Standardization means you don’t have to constantly “reinvent” the process from the beginning. It saves time that can be used to creatively improve the process going forward using the 5S approach.

Seiketsu motto: Make the rules, follow them, and enforce them.

Fifth S – Shitsuke (Sustain)

Shitsuke is the process by which new processes are adopted and encouraged to become habits. A degree of discipline is required to ensure the continued application of new standardized processes, and this usually involves frequent measurement and periodic audits.

All the knowledge gained in the previous four steps can be lost without becoming shitsuke. Once improvements are made, it is easy to become complacent and forget the “continuous” part of “continuous improvement.”
