While it might be easy to assume that the world’s most established influencers contribute on a regular basis, our research has uncovered a wide variation in activity levels across the top 15 accounts analysed.

The most active pinners, @janew (1,829 pins last year) and @stylemepretty (1,545 pins last year) sit in sixth and seventh place respectively.

On the other end of the scale, users like @veanad (74 pins last year) and @llbean (7 pins last year) are still in the top fifteen.

As you can see in the infographic, the numbers are spread out everywhere.

Only five users fall within the 200-450/posts per year range, showing that there is no established usage pattern that easily distinguishes top Pinterest influencers from other users.

With this data in hand, it is important to remember that the main Pinterest influencers were among the first to arrive on the social network, when it recommended accounts to follow for new users who registered on it.

Many of these early users found themselves on Pinterest's recommended profile lists, allowing them to massively gain followers through internal Pinterest referrals.

Some, like @ohjoy, have seized the opportunity and turned it into a full-time business, partnering with Target and other retail businesses.

Others, like @stylemepretty, may have started out as individual users, but have quickly evolved into staff publishing platforms .

The advice here for being a Pinterest influencer is less about how many times you post and more about quality and how to fine-tune the pins you choose to share.

Pinterest influencers focus mostly on style and food
While the top influencers on Pinterest seem to focus on fashion and home decor, our research shows that food, DIY projects, art and travel aren’t far behind.

Home decor leads the way (28.9%) among Pinterest users, with bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms having the highest activity levels.

Style-related Pins account for over a fifth of activity (21.7%) among Pinners, with fashion, hair and beauty being the three topics that receive the most attention.

Food and recipes (15.1%) are in third place with the most attention focused on desserts, chicken and cocktails.

It's especially worth noting that video pins have seen an increase in interest across all categories.

Video-based pins are the most popular pin format in Food and Recipe-related categories.

And as with many other areas of social media content marketing, Pinterest influencers and marketers email database list alike would do well to pay more attention to creating video-based content.
