To grow your audience on Twitter, you only need to know two things:

How to post a retweet.
On Twitter, you gain new followers by retweeting. Retweets are how your content gets exposed outside of your existing follower base. New users will follow you.

I surveyed my Twitter followers and asked them why they retweeted. There were 3 key reasons:

1. Bookmark tweets for later use.

In their words – “I forward this to remind my future self. Retweeting is my bookmarking system. Retweeting means saving for later.”
Meaning – People feel compelled to bookmark heavy step-by-step tweets for later reference. Tweet threads are an ideal format.
2. Pay tribute to novel ideas.

In their words – “I retweet when someone finally gets my cayman islands mobile database words out.” “I retweet when I want to say something but don’t know how to say it.”
Meaning - paradoxical truths on Twitter, capturing what people believe to be true despite widespread signals to the contrary. Say it elegantly, succinctly, and with an analogy.
3. To signal one's position.

In their words — “It helps me solidify the narrative I’ve crafted for myself.” “It reflects who I am on Twitter.” “I want my followers to know I relate to this statement.” I’m not the only one who thinks this way.
Meaning – Choose a side in an argument. State a new argument to prove your position is better. Stand firm in your position. You need to find the user accurately.
Try to make each of your tweets fall into one of these categories. Always focus on being concise, witty, and original.

The following tweet types rarely lead to new followers: polls, memes, and videos. Your focus should be on written, actionable insights.
