Soyinka became the second president of the organisation from 1997 to 2000. A further volume of Soyinka's poems, entitled Outsiders, was published in 1999. That same year, a BBC-commissioned play called Document of Identity was broadcast on BBC Radio 3, telling the slightly fictionalised story of the problems his daughter's family encountered during a stopover in Britain when they fled Nigeria for the United States in 1997; Her baby was born prematurely in London and became stateless. The climbing onion, although not really an onion, is an interesting and easy-to-grow patio plant. FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – We geeks can’t help but be drawn to the strange and unusual. The climbing onion or sea onion (Bowiea volubilis) is one such plant. It’s perhaps more strange than beautiful, but it’s hardy, will live smart number list for years and is an ideal plant to add to a collection.
The climbing onion is a monotypic genus of the asparagus family from Africa, where it is native from Kenya to South Africa. It produces a cluster of fleshy, yellowish-green, above-ground bulbs that grow from a couple of inches across to the size of a softball with only the basal 10 percent of the bulb actually in the ground. From the base of the bulbs, succulent roots protrude into the soil.
