Homeschooling is the best answer to the Corona crisis - that's how a clear majority of the population sees it. Almost nine out of ten Germans (87 percent) are of the opinion that all schools should be able to teach students via homeschooling this school year . About the same number (88 percent) believe that the use of digital technologies and media such as computers , smartboards or tablets should be standard in all schools. From the point of view of people in Germany, there is a lot of catching up to do: nine out of ten citizens (89 percent) say that the pandemic has ruthlessly exposed the deficits in the digitalization of schools, as a survey of more than 1,000 people in Germany commissioned by the digital association Bitkom shows.
"The pressure to act is great. The Corona crisis showed overseas chinese in europe data us that digitization is not a nice extra, but an absolutely necessary basic feature," says Bitkom President Achim Berg, calling for more speed in the implementation of the Digital Pact for Schools. "We must now do everything we can to ensure that students' right to education is fulfilled even in the Corona winter and to flip the digital switch in schools. The Digital Pact for Schools provides the resources, and they must now finally reach schools quickly and in full."
In order to advance the digitalization of schools across the board, Bitkom is launching the fourth Smart School competition today, October 29, 2020. The Smart School award is intended to honor schools that present convincing concepts for the digitalization of schools and lessons and are already putting digital education into practice today. Smart Schools are based on the three pillars of digital infrastructure, digital content and concepts, and qualified teachers. Schools that have developed and implemented a concept for these three pillars and supplemented this with sustainable project management can apply.
