What is Big Data? Why is it important?

Post by nurmohammadkhan »

Let's start by going back to a definition of Big Data from some time ago (quoting an extremely technical one from Gartner): “Big Data are very high-volume, very high-speed, and/or very high-variety information assets that require innovative forms of analysis and interpretation capable of improving insights, decision making, and process automation.”

The term Big Data therefore describes, first of all, an exorbitant volume australia whatsapp resource of data, both structured and unstructured . The expression is quite new but refers to a much older reality : think of how companies have always had to deal with large-scale data sets and how for decades they have used spreadsheets and paper forms to keep track of information relating to activities and customers. The difference is that we now have the tools and technical skills to obtain from Big Data the insights necessary to make more informed decisions , based on the actual interactions between consumers and brands and on their online and offline behaviors. Big Data allows us to listen to the voice of each of these consumers.

From this “enhanced” listening – made possible by increasingly sophisticated analyses – organisations in general and companies in particular draw the knowledge necessary to undertake targeted actions to :

streamline and make internal processes and structures more efficient,
direct timely and effective communications externally.
What makes Big Data valuable are its applications and the way in which they provide decisive answers to specific requests. The benefits of their use, ultimately, end up investing the different business functions: marketing, sales, purchasing, customer service, human resources. In short: the company as a whole.
