What is it? The RACI matrix is a planning tool that visually shows the project participants and their roles. It includes performers, responsible persons, experts and workers who are affected by the result of the completed task.

What to pay attention to? This matrix helps to organize the process so that everyone understands their tasks, and the manager sees the persons responsible for the work. However, it is not always possible to draw up RACI correctly.

The essence of the RACI matrix
The RACI matrix is a tabular student database form that describes the roles of project participants. It is formed at the very beginning of the work, and then a procedure of coordination with the entire team is carried out.

Thus, those members of the working group who do not agree with the area of responsibility assigned to them can propose their adjustments or abandon the project at the very start.

For example, one of the team members responsible for social surveys is ready to conduct interviews only by telephone, but not in person on city streets.

The essence of the RACI matrix

When managing a project, it is much easier to make changes before work begins or find replacements for participants who have given up their functions. Otherwise, you will have to solve problems that arise in the course of solving project tasks in a time crunch mode.

In the first column of the RACI matrix, from top to bottom, you should write down all the goals that need to be achieved (project tasks). Then, in the top row, in horizontal order, you need to enter the team members.

In the fields that are the intersection of tasks with members of the working group, letter symbols are entered indicating the function of a specific participant. Here, only four letters are used, which make up the name of the RACI matrix:

Responsible (R) – the person performing the task.

Accountable (A) – a responsible person. This is a participant who is responsible for the accurate and timely implementation of the task. There should be only one person here, but not the executor. The responsible person appoints the one who will carry out the assigned task and monitor its implementation.

Consult (C): an expert who advises team members on solving a specific problem within the scope of their expertise.

Informed (I) – a member of the work group who must be aware of the progress of a specific task. He receives information on the task because it affects his work.
