In their quest to invent new words that summarise in a single term what is normally expressed in a short sentence (things about economy of words), marketers have introduced a new concept into our language: leads. What is a lead in online marketing ? Well, I have written this entire post to explain it, so I hope that after reading it it will be clear to you.
What is a lead in online marketing?
I turn to the omniscient Wikipedia for the definition of a lead: the japan phone number list of a person or entity that has the interest and authority to purchase a product or service. How bombastic! How easy it would be to say that the lead is a potential client.
We consider a potential client to be someone who meets these three conditions:
Need to buy the product or service (a long-haired person could hardly be a potential customer of a hair growth store, for example)
Money to buy the product or service
Authority to make the purchasing decision (a child may want to buy something, but it is his or her parents who have the authority to make the purchasing decision, for example).
The Internet has become the best place to get leads. Not in vain, there are more than 2.4 billion Internet users worldwide.
That's why you'll see that in online marketing, there's always talk about getting leads. In the field of online marketing, a lead can be someone who comes to your website and fills out a form, or someone who becomes a follower of your brand on Facebook.
