A business process is a sequence of actions (to serve a consumer) that allows achieving the desired result.

To formalize business processes it is necessary:

Often employees who do the same job do it differently. For example, one (Vanya) has much better results (if he is in the mood) than another (Vasya). They are pitied and not fired, since a lot has been invested in them. They have to be scolded and fined.

But you can analyze Vanya's work in detail, describe the algorithm and introduce it to everyone who works like Vasya. At the same time, you can check the skills of the workers after training and fire those who are not willing to make an effort.

So it's like in the army? On the one hand, yes, but on the other, no.

Clearly define processes.

Business has several stages of maturity. The first is when activity is based on intuition and enthusiasm. Then they act not only on intuition, but also under the threat of reprimand from the manager.

In the future, if you do not formalize the business, it will remain useless. To formalize means to describe all business processes and ensure that the enterprise functions strictly according to them. Otherwise, there will be no success.

Formalized business does not necessarily mean cold relations between employees. They just discuss work issues, and do not collect gossip or sit on social networks.

Highlight the main processes.

The main ones are those that provide income. If the enterprise is small, then the number of such processes is from 1 to 5. For example, wholesale trade, retail trade.

Auxiliary services include personnel management, logistics, IT, accounting services, etc. Their purpose is to ensure the effective management of core processes, while the client is not at all interested in them.

Determine who is responsible for the execution of each specific process from start to finish, that is, who is its “manager”.

The absence of such a person leads to a situation where "the buttons are OK", but the suit is a bit crooked. You cannot appoint top-level managers as process managers. They do not have enough time to fully deal with this issue, so the company's development will be doomed.

Describe the main business processes step by step.

Select someone responsible for each action. Find out how effective the individual steps are and how they fit together: this is usually where difficulties arise. Maybe you should eliminate some steps altogether.

To evaluate how effective each process is, you will need to select several evaluation criteria (3-5 pcs.).

It is possible that you will find it necessary to change not only the processes, but also the organizational structure of the business. If it was created spontaneously, it may slow down the development of your business.

We recommend making it simpler by getting rid of unnecessary departments and positions. Reorganization should be thought out, you should not act intuitively. If you do everything correctly, you will confidently move towards success.

Streamlining a business is a team effort. All participants in each business process must take part in it. Otherwise, the process models will be far from reality and it will be impossible to implement them: employees will quite reasonably resist.
