Women and technology. Female talent. Conciliation measures. IT companies.
An increasing number of women have broken the glass ceiling and are now occupying management positions in the technology industry. In Spain, we find Marta Martínez, president of IBM, Pilar López Álvarez, president of Microsoft, Rosa García, CEO and president of Siemens, Helena Herrero, president of HP, Sarah Harmon, director of LinkedIn… These are important examples, but the presence of women in this sector is still very much in the minority and is far from equal.

According to data revealed by a study by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), only 23.8% of rcs data laos employed in the technology sector are women . A female representation that decreases as the responsibility increases, since less than 10% of management positions in this sector are occupied by women. But this reality has an original sin: currently, only 20% of girls choose to study technology careers . At this rate, according to the World Economic Forum , gender equality in this sector will not be achieved until 2133.

Faced with this situation, more and more companies are launching all kinds of programs to attract and retain female talent.

Last year, Wallapop , the app for buying and selling second-hand products, and the Ironhack programming school , launched a training scholarship programme in web programming, web and mobile design and web development worth a total of 200,000 euros with the aim of attracting female talent. There are 10 full scholarships, of 6,500 euros each, and 90 partial scholarships of 1,500 euros, aimed at women with a technological profile who are interested in the area of programming.

The Spanish satellite telecommunications operator Hispasat is also supporting the scholarship system . The Hispasat “Female Engineer” scholarship aims to promote the presence of female talent in the technological field and thus contribute to both the professional development of women in these studies and to increasing the number of women in the space sector. The scholarship consists of a financial aid of 5,000 euros to pay the registration fee for the postgraduate course in which the winner enrolls and, where applicable, other expenses associated with these studies.
